Novemberfest – This weekend!
Due to Covid-19 the 22nd Annual Novemberfest will be held virtually on Sunday November 22, 2020.This event, hosted by the Gate City Striders, benefits the Nashua Childrens Home, and the wonderful work they do. Novemberfest has always been primarily a social event and a successful Novemberfest has been when we had a standing room only crowd in the bar at Martha’s Exchange. While we can’t gather as usual this year, the Nashua Children’s Home still needs our support. We are still offering some terrific raffle prizes of value greater than your entry fee. Pennichuck Winter Runs
The group runs visiting our dear old friend Deerhaven have begun. Runners of all abilities are welcome, runs start at 6pm stat. Post a message on here if you want to be sure your pace will be there.

Special Olympics Torch Run
Special Olympics of NH cannot hold their torch run like usual, so they’re opening it up to anyone to run virtually. They are working on getting the NH Running clubs to compete against each other. Virtual Speaker Night! – This Coming Monday!
Join us the evening of Monday, November 9th at 6:30PM for a virtual event and learn about how a local Manchester, NH native went from racing track and cross country as a teen to competing nationally and internationally, on the road, in the snow, and on mountaintops! Kasie Enman, a member of Green Mountain Athletic Association (GMAA) living in Huntington, VT is no stranger to competition and only seems to be getting stronger after transitioning from the open to masters division. Learn about how her training has changed over the years along with racing terrain and what has led to her continued success.
Kasie is a mother of two, a business owner, educator, race director, and accomplished athlete. Her running resume includes: 2020 Marathon Trials Athlete (her 3rd trials), 2020 Boston Prep 16 Miler First Female, Vermont City Marathon First Female (x3), podium finisher at the Skyrunning World Series, 2011 USATF National Mountain Running Champion and WMRA World Mountain Running Champion, 2006 U.S. Snowshoe Racing Champion, NCA Division III All-American Cross Country Athlete, and more. The Gate City Strider Executive board is looking for members to join! Help us drive what we as a club do. We’re currently looking for a couple individuals to be on the competition committee, a treasurer, at-large members, and a Boston Bus coordinator. For each, except for the Boston Bus Coordinator, there are monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month along with whatever responsibilities your role will have. If interested, please contact me or another member of the board for more information.

The 26×1 mile challenge is back! Next weekend, October 18th at the Nashua South Track. Brandyn will be putting together teams of 26 striders to compete during our 1 mile challenge. This was a lot of fun in the spring. Everyone is welcome! All paces, all abilities.

We’ll be looking for nominations ahead of our annual meeting in March. As of now, we have open positions for Treasurer, Communications Director and Competition Committee.

Boston Bus Dan Dugan is stepping down after many years running the Boston Bus for the Striders. We thank him for all of his efforts over the years. If you are interested in taking over the duties for the bus, please let us know. Dan can answer any questions about what will be involved.

We’d like to invite the Gate City Striders to run in our free virtual marathon relay series: the Boston to Baystate Virtual Marathon Relay. So far, our virtual events have been members-only, but we thought it would be more fun if GCS ran this one too.Virtual relays will be weekly, for five weeks, beginning on the day of the Boston Marathon on Monday, September 14th and ending on the day of the Baystate Marathon on Sunday, October 18th.Competition is at the individual and team level.Leg distances are 5k, 5 miles, 10 miles, totaling 26.2 for the team.You can coordinate with your teammates and run a different distance each week, or the same. If you run your leg, but your team doesn’t make the distance that week, you still qualify to earn points in the individual division.Team size is 3-5 runners. A team member can run up to 3 legs of different distances in any given week. If you decide to just run solo and compete on the individual level, that’s fine too! The price is right at $0!

  • Leg distances are 5k, 5 miles, 10 miles, totaling 26.2 for the team.
  • You can coordinate with your teammates and run a different distance each week, or the same. If you run your leg, but your team doesn’t make the distance that week, you still qualify to earn points in the individual division.
  • Team size is 3-5 runners. A team member can run up to 3 legs of different distances in any given week.
  • If you decide to just run solo and compete on the individual level, that’s fine too!

If you have any ideas for races or challenges that we can run during Covid, We’re all ears. I do know that the 26×1 mile challenge WILL be making it’s return in the near future, likely on the track. Striders!

Hope everyone is staying healthy, distanced, and keeping motivated during these times! I’m really enjoying the challenges that Brandyn Naro has been throwing out here in the discussion group!

First off, congrats to Catherine McNamara for setting a new mile PR as part of the GCS Team Marathon Relay! If you or someone you know has run a PR, please let me know!

Annual Meeting
I would like to also congratulate Jeremy Berger, Diane Dunklee Clifford, Mark Crane, Mark Furler, Amanda Naro, Carolina Keri Tumminelli and Lori Vance for their election/reelection to the board. I hear Brandyn Naro has a virtual ultimate runner challenge coming up soon, and newer strider Scott Rogers is currently working on a charity virtual 5k that will raise some money for a good cause. Look for that very soon!
