Good Morning Striders!

Up early, got the windows open, enjoying the great temps. Hope everyone is doing well!

Congrats to Thomas Cantara on not only his race victory this past weekend, but also a new 5k PR!
Congrats to Melissa Arnold on completing her 100k!
If you or someone you know has run a PR or significant race accomplishment, please let me know!

Executive Board:
The Gate City Strider Executive board is looking for members to join! Help us drive what we as a club do. We’re currently looking for a couple individuals to be on the competition committee, a treasurer, at-large members, and a Boston Bus coordinator. For each, except for the Boston Bus Coordinator, there are monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month along with whatever responsibilities your role will have. If interested, please contact me or another member of the board for more information.

Virtual Speaker Night!
Join us the evening of Monday, November 9th at 6:30PM for a virtual event and learn about how a local Manchester, NH native went from racing track and cross country as a teen to competing nationally and internationally, on the road, in the snow, and on mountaintops! Kasie Enman, a member of Green Mountain Athletic Association (GMAA) living in Huntington, VT is no stranger to competition and only seems to be getting stronger after transitioning from the open to masters division. Learn about how her training has changed over the years along with racing terrain and what has led to her continued success. Kasie is a mother of two, a business owner, educator, race director, and accomplished athlete. Her running resume includes: 2020 Marathon Trials Athlete (her 3rd trials), 2020 Boston Prep 16 Miler First Female, Vermont City Marathon First Female (x3), podium finisher at the Skyrunning World Series, 2011 USATF National Mountain Running Champion and WMRA World Mountain Running Champion, 2006 U.S. Snowshoe Racing Champion, NCA Division III All-American Cross Country Athlete, and more. We’re excited to host Kasie for a virtual speaker event and look forward to hearing about her training and running! https://www.facebook.com/events/353600655921032/

Novemberfest
Due to Covid-19 the 22nd Annual Novemberfest will be held virtually on Sunday November 22, 2020. This event, hosted by the Gate City Striders, benefits the Nashua Childrens Home, and the wonderful work they do. Novemberfest has always been primarily a social event and a successful Novemberfest has been when we had a standing room only crowd in the bar at Martha’s Exchange. While we can’t gather as usual this year, the Nashua Children’s Home still needs our support. We are still offering some terrific raffle prizes of value greater than your entry fee. Entrants are encouraged to run the 4-mile Novemberfest course anytime before Sunday November 22, 2020 to be included in the race results. http://www.lightboxreg.com/novemberfest_2020

Weekly Announcements Feb. 27th 2020

Hello Striders!

Congrats to Tara Roark-Towle who set new PRs in the 60m,200m AND 400m events at the USATF NE Open Indoor Championships this past weekend!

If you or anyone you know has run a PR or had a significant accomplishment, please let me know!

FRIENDS OF MICHAEL WADE: as many may or may not know…he is making a move across country, departing this coming weekend, with a pit stop here in Nashua. Tom, Stephen and Jennifer are hosting a farewell open house Friday (2/28) evening at Tom and Jen’s home from 7:00 pm -10:00 pm…come for the duration or stop by to say hello (and goodbye)! BYOB & and bring a snack to share! Michael would love to see his old GCS pals! Address: 1 Vieckis Dr in Nashua

The last Freeze your Buns race is this coming Sunday, March 1st!

We will once again have a bus heading down for the Boston Marathon. The bus is open to non-members now as well. You can reserve your spot by paying $75 / seat to Dan Dugan. Checks payable to GATE CITY STRIDERS and mailed to Marathon Bus, 22 Cabot Dr, Nashua NH 03064. Or Venmo Dan at Dan-Dugan-99. Please include Name of Runner, Phone Number, E-mail Address, Emergency Contact Name, Emergency Contact Number, Any concerns you won’t make it to Hotel by 5:30PM? Any questions, message Dan Dugan

The next races in the New Hampshire Grand Prix and New England Grand Prix are coming up quickly! The next big race weekend is still 1 month away, but numbers are already looking good for the Shamrock Shuffle in Lebanon (NHGP) on Saturday March 14th and the New Bedford Half Marathon (NEGP) on Sunday March 15th. That said, looks like we’ve still got some work to do if we want to fill out all the age groups! Every Runner Counts, Every Point Counts. Please let Mark Furler and Brandyn Naro know if you sign up. Hope to see everyone out there!

There is still PLENTY of room to come join us at indoor track on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please fill out the waivers and sign up form from here: http://gatecity.org/indoor-track-workouts/ and bring them and a check to the track and you’re in! Lots of great workouts to get you ready to kick butt into the spring season! A night by night option is available. $10 per night as long as there is capacity. First come, first served with precedence to anyone who has signed up for the entire workout. You’ll still need to fill out the waivers but bring exact cash or a check made out to the Gate City Striders and check in with the coaches to pay and get the wristband. The competitive night is similar to our outdoor track workouts. Whether you are training for a 5k,10k, half or full, there’s a workout prescribed for that night. The coaches are there to help guide you thru and give lap times. Just like at outdoor track. All paces are absolutely welcome. Come join us next Tuesday if you’re curious. Recreational night is similar to a Couch to 5k program.

The next Gate City Marathon, Half Marathon & Relay course preview run is March 8th. Come join us at Odd Fellows! https://www.facebook.com/events/2545618989092187/

The Gate City Marathon, Half Marathon & Relay registrations are up as well. Come out and race the new flatter and faster course! http://www.gcsmarathon.org/
